Regional Media Workshop on the CARIFORUM-EU EPA


On March 17th & 18th, 2011, Antigua & Barbuda EPA Implementation Unit hosted the TheĀ Regional Media Workshop on the CARIFORUM-EU EPAorganised by the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Implementation Unit of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat at Jolly Beach Resort, Bolans. The workshop was funded under the 9th European Development Fund (EDF), Caribbean Integration Support Programme (CISP).

The participants included representatives from the print and broadcasting media from each CARIFORUM State.

The workshop was designed to:

(i) heighten participants’ awareness/understanding of the CARIFORUM-EU EPA and enable them to gain a deeper appreciation of the implementation obligations of CARIFORUM States, as well as the benefits that are provided in the Agreement;

(ii) (ii) examine techniques for communication professionals to report on and write short news pieces as well as narrative features in the area of commercial diplomacy, through intensive modular-styled training sessions.

The workshop was opened with a feature address by Hon. Senator Joanne Massiah, Minister of State in the Ministry of Legal Affairs, in her address she reminded the media professionals that they have a critical role in “the proper distillation and dissemination of development issues such as the EPA so that all strata of society can be fully informed“.

The workshop was attended by over 30 participants from across the CARIFORUM Member States.
